Taghazout is a small fishing village situated north from Agadir in a southwestern Morocco. The inhabitants there are mostly Berber origin, although you can meet there people from all over the country. The main source of income is still fishing, production of argan oil and tourism. In the late 1960s and 1970s it was a popular destination for hippies looking for a base while exploring Morocco. At some point, in Taghazout and neighboring areas several hundred young people would reside in tents, makeshift buildings, and camper vans.
For a years now the camp had been banned, but the vibes around the area remained the same. The village still attracts people looking for a tranquility and peace, additionally is one of the most famous destinations for surfers, digital nomads and yoga retreats. Most of the foreigners staying there live by the rule “chill, surf, eat – repeat!” because this place is simply the best for it. And if you feel overwhelmed with surfing activities you can always find a place with live music around, go to a skatepark on the hill above the village or simply enjoy the sunset on one of the smaller beaches. It is truly an amazing place with positive vibes around, interesting people and beautiful views. And everything there just seem to be mashi mushkil!
